Farnes
15th October 2019
Farne Islands, Northumberland
After a four hour journey with many diversions, a wrong turn which made us loop back to where we started and a stretch of road where we had to follow a 10 mph convoy van, we finally made it to Seahouses on Monday night.
After a quick breakfast, we arrived at the docks and boarded our hard boat. On arrival to the islands, a stampede of seals belly flopped down the rocks into the water when they saw our boat but unfortunately these sealies were not looking for cuddles.
On the first (and only) dive of the day, Ambre and I entered the water and immediately found around 6 seals playing in a gully, we followed and got to see a few curious ones nibbling at our fins. After 5 minutes, the seals vanished and we were stuck in 1m vis of water being pushed in every direction by the swell.
We called the dive early (30 minutes) and decided to skip dive number two due to tiredness!
Although a beautiful day for an October dive trip, we did not see the usual interactiveness that Farnes seals are known for. Written by Abbie Leggott
