Diving

Our dedicated members are constantly planning trips both in the UK and overseas. If you are used to diving in warmer seas, don't count out the UK as a diving destination! UK waters have a large variety of marine life and more shipwrecks per square kilometer than any other country in the world.

Having said that we don't just dive in 'cold water'. We have a trip abroad every Easter for training.

LUUSAC dive at a number of locations, both in the UK and abroad. Our staple training site is Capernwray Quarry in the Lake District. Often referred to as an underwater theme park, Capernwray is a man-made dive site with sunken shipwrecks, planes, robots, and a gnome garden. Being inland, it is the perfect place to train new divers or orientate experienced divers in the use of new equipment.

Once our trainees are qualified, they are able to go on club trips. These include annual visits to the Farne Islands where the grey seal colonies provide a fantastic interactive diving experience. Trips are also run to the Scottish lochs, St Abbs, and the South Coast of England, all of which offer their own variety of marine life and geographical beauty. Diving in the UK can be cold, especially in the winter months. However, the temperature is mitigated by protective equipment and the privilege of diving in fantastically well preserved marine ecosystems.

The UK boasts a number of marine conservation zones, offering a diversity of life that many people would not expect. Adding the UK's extensive maritime history into the mix, it's easy to see why UK diving is such a popular hobby – despite people's initial misgivings about the murky water and the temperamental weather.

That being said, there are also fantastic dive sites abroad. Every Easter LUUSAC runs a trip to a location abroad. Past trips have seen us visit Cyprus, Lanzarote, Malta, Gozo, Fuerteventura, and Egypt.

As a club, we aim to foster a love of diving, educate our members about the marine environment and its conservation, and to constantly diversify the diving we undertake. If you enjoy exploration, or even if you just want to take a selfie with a lobster, consider joining us.
